Material selection: zirconia, lithium disilicate and when to use each
Prime Lab Dental Studios, West Leederville WA
A session on matching material to the case rather than to habit.

The session compared monolithic zirconia, layered zirconia and lithium disilicate across strength, translucency and preparation requirements.
Most of the discussion was about the cases where the answer is not obvious: short clinical crowns, bruxers, and single anteriors next to natural teeth.
What was covered
- Preparation design constrains material choice more than aesthetics does
- Monolithic zirconia is not the default answer for anterior single units
- Cementation protocol changes with the material, and getting it wrong undoes the restoration
- Send the opposing arch. It changes the recommendation more often than expected
